Two cloud RMM platforms for managing a mixed-OS fleet. Compare endpoint control, patching, remote support, automation and the actual cost of your required toolset.
RMMmax is a full RMM platform with its own Windows, macOS and Linux agents, monitoring, alerting, patching, software management, scripting and remote control. NinjaOne is a cloud endpoint-management platform with cross-OS patching, remote access and a broad product portfolio. Choose by the workflows, controls and licensing your team needs – not by treating RMMmax as an extra layer on another RMM.
Both products are evaluated as the RMM that manages your fleet. A feature name alone does not establish equal OS coverage, configuration depth or plan access.
| Capability / control | RMMmax | NinjaOne |
|---|---|---|
| Deployment model | Managed cloud RMM. Run your fleet directly without a separate RMM or customer-hosted RMM server. | Cloud-based endpoint management; no customer-hosted RMM infrastructure. |
| Native agents and OS coverage | Windows, macOS and Linux agents. Individual tools remain OS-specific. | Windows, macOS and Linux endpoint management. |
| Monitoring, inventory and alerts | Active agent polling, endpoint inventory and script-driven alerts. Console, toast and email notifications; paid-tier SMS is metered. | Endpoint monitoring, alerting and hardware/software inventory. |
| OS patching and restart controls | Cross-OS Update Manager: scans, pending updates, patch scores, deployments and install history. Client, location or selected-agent schedules; Windows deferrals and restart options. | Automated Windows, macOS and Linux OS patching; deployment schedules and reboot management. |
| Third-party software | Chocolatey for Windows; Homebrew on supported macOS/Linux systems; Linux package-update workflows. Inventory, installation and updates depend on the package tool. | Automated application patching; validate the supported application catalog. |
| Scripting and operational data | PowerShell/Bash execution, private and community script libraries, recurring schedules and results. Custom Data Fields with collection, history and sensitive-value masking. | Endpoint task automation and scripting; test scheduling and remediation workflows. |
| Remote control | Remote control through RustDesk on supported Windows, macOS and Linux endpoints. Included on Free and Pro; not Essentials. Compatible endpoint configuration is required. | Remote-access solutions for hands-on endpoint support; confirm the solution included in your package. |
| Security and vulnerability context | Antivirus and Windows Defender workflows. BitLocker recovery/encryption visibility and NVD/CISA KEV CVE Intelligence on Free and Pro; not Essentials. | Vulnerability Management and Endpoint Security are offered in the NinjaOne portfolio; verify the products in your quote. |
| Discovery and assets | Recon network discovery, ports/services and vulnerability findings on Free and Pro. Printer inventory and supported warranty lookups in the core toolbox. | Endpoint management and integrations; validate discovery, custom-data and asset requirements in a demo. |
| Reports and execution history | Branded PDF reports for entitled tools, with scope varying by tool. Review script, scan, patch and reboot results in client/agent context. | Patch reporting, notifications and endpoint reporting. |
| AI/MCP automation and permissions | MCP-compatible assistant access with separate read, write and execute scopes. Included on Free; optional $0.50/agent/month list-rate add-on on paid plans. Base-plan tool limits still apply. | Automation and autonomous patching offerings; verify AI actions, approval controls and product entitlements. |
| Pricing and account limits | Free: 5 agents / 1 user. Essentials: $1/agent/month / 3 users. Pro: $2/agent/month / unlimited users. Paid plans support up to 5,000 agents, with automatic volume discounts and peak-enabled-agent billing. | Per-device pricing with volume tiers. Published example rates vary by fleet size, region and products; request a comparable quote. |
| PSA, ticketing and billing | An RMM platform, not a PSA replacement. Evaluate your separate service-desk, ticketing and business-billing requirements. | Ticketing, billing and other products are listed separately in the portfolio; confirm your required package. |
On small screens, scroll the comparison horizontally. Tool availability is not a promise of identical behavior on every operating system.
Enroll representative endpoints. Test inventory and alert delivery, scan and install patches, run a scheduled script, complete a remote session, review security findings and produce a client report. Compare the licensed configuration that passes your test – not an isolated headline price.
USD list rates before automatic volume discounts. Paid plans are month-to-month; billing uses peak enabled agent count. MCP and SMS are separate paid services where applicable.
Free includes the full non-SMS toolbox within 5-agent / 1-user limits. Free teams must sign in at least once every 30 days to avoid retirement and permanent data purge. Paid plans have no inactivity retirement. See current plans, limits and pricing.
Yes. RMMmax runs independently with its own agents and provides monitoring, alerting, patching, software management, scripting, reporting and remote control on entitled plans. Pilot your required workflows and supported operating systems before migrating. A separate PSA or service desk may still be needed.
No. Native RMMmax agents manage endpoints directly. Optional integrations are a deployment choice, not a requirement for the platform. This page compares standalone RMM operation.
No. Free and Pro include Remote Control, BitLocker, CVE Intelligence and Recon; Essentials does not. Free includes MCP, while Essentials and Pro require the optional MCP add-on. Defender and BitLocker are Windows-specific; all tools require compatible endpoints and configuration.
Price the same fleet, users and required capabilities. RMMmax paid list rates are $1/agent/month for Essentials and $2 for Pro, plus $0.50 for optional MCP before volume discounts. Include competitor products, remote-access licenses, hosting, optional services and agreed contract terms. No universal savings claim is made.
Test OS support, patch and reboot behavior, alert routing, remote sessions, script results, security data and report exports. Verify permissions and plan access, and plan a phased rollout with a rollback path. Native agents and operational policies must be deployed and configured; migration is not automatic.
Reviewed October 13, 2026. RMMmax capabilities are grounded in the current platform and published plan matrix. Competitor summaries use official public product information; version, plan and contract terms can change. Unlisted functionality is not a claim that a competitor lacks it. Product names belong to their respective owners.
