Auto Install Software

The RMMmax Software Manager can push package installs from its list of available packages to the different agent types. This allows the MSP to assign software titles to a client and have the Software Manager manage the deployments automatically as it sees agents missing any approved package.

Each client has three places where you can turn on Auto Installs: one for Windows agents, one for Mac agents, and one for Linux agents. Under the Client settings for each agent type, there will be an area to enable auto installs.

Auto Install Packages will only install approved and enabled packages.

Approved Packages

Approved packages are software titles that you want to have standardized across the client environment. As agents are enabled, they will be checked to see if they have the current packages installed, and if not, they will attempt to install the package.

You can find and manage the Approved Applications list by selecting a client from the client menu, and then selecting the Software Manager tab in the tool panel below. Select from the Software Managers main menu Command / Approved Packages submenu.

Approved Package List Tool

By default, you start without any packages in your list. Using the Add Package button you can add new packages to the list.

Adding A Package To The List

Package titles can be applied to more than one agent type, an example of this is with the package Wget. Wget is a common URL fetching tool that is available for almost all OS types. This means that you can install Wget on Windows, Mac, or Linux using the same package name. Below, we are adding Wget to our approved package list and selecting what agents we want to install Wget. We also selected to enable the package which will make it available for the Auto Installs function.

Now, let us add another package, this time the Mozilla Firefox Browser. We will select to add this to Windows and Mac agents skipping Linux agents. We are also enabling this for Auto Installs.

Now an example of a Windows Only or a Chocolatey package that does not exist for Mac or Linux and cannot be installed to those OS types.

Managing The Package List

After adding our packages, the package list will display the new items added to the list. Each package has a side menu that will allow you to edit or delete the package from the list. The list displays which OS types are approved for each package.

Enable Package For Auto Install

Packages can be added to the Approved Package list but not be auto-deployed by RMMmax. When you select to enable an approved package, you are telling RMMmax that you want this to auto-deploy to the enabled agents. But only if the Auto Install setting for the client is also enabled. If you enable an approved package for your client but do not turn on Auto Installs, no packages will be deployed automatically.

Auto Install must be enabled before any enabled approved package will be auto deployed.

Manually Installing Approved Packages

Select the checkbox Install using an Approved Package. This will cause the Package Name Field to change to a selectable list of the approved software setup for the client.
